Medical Laboratory Technology Program

Medical Laboratory Technologists are allied health professionals who:

  1. Draw blood from patients for clinical or medical testing, transfusions, donations, or research.
  2. Conduct chemical analysis of body fluids, including blood, urine, or spinal fluid, and enter data from analysis of medical tests or clinical results into computer for storage.
  3. Perform routine medical laboratory tests for the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease.
  4. Specialize in the analysis of cellular material from patient specimens, and assist with the collection and preparation of specimens, and detection of normal and abnormal cells, and infectious agents using a variety of techniques that include microscopic cytomorphology, special stains, immunocytochemistry and molecular techniques.
  5. Perform genetic testing on cell samples, perform quality control procedures, and communicate results that have been critically evaluated to ensure accuracy and reliability.
  6. Conduct research in the science and techniques of lab medicine.

Program Aims

The program will provide the students with qualities and competencies that ensure success in the field of laboratory medicine as a medical laboratory technician, provide the community with qualified laboratory personnel that will enhance the health care system of the community.
